The UFRJ Science Park is located in one of the UFRJ campi, on Fundão island, within a 350,000 square meter area. Open since 2003, the Park has stimulated the interaction between the University – both students and academia – and the companies; thus transforming knowledge into jobs and income besides offering innovative products as well as services to the society.
Today, research centers belonging to 16 big companies, 9 small and medium-sized companies as well as 9 UFRJ laboratories are set up in the Park. Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator, which currently holds 27 start ups, is also set up here. Other 66 technology-producing companies were developed in the Incubator. Within this innovative atmosphere, GE and L’Oréal research centers are also located on Bom Jesus Island.
Since its opening, the Park’s investments have reached over R$ 1 billion. Currently, about 1,600 people work in the Park.
